Renting Cuckoo Appliances in Korea: Rice Cookers and More
Cuckoo is a much smaller line-up than LG or Samsung in our catalogue, but it is the one worth knowing if you want to start small. Its median monthly fee is about a third of theirs, and it covers a product Koreans consider essential and most foreign residents do not think about until they arrive: the pressure rice cooker.
Figures below are counted from our own catalogue as of July 2026. This is about renting Cuckoo products through Korean rental companies — it is not a product review and does not describe warranty or after-sales terms.
What Cuckoo covers in rental
Our catalogue lists 57 Cuckoo items — small, but spread across four useful groups:
- Rice cookers — 16 items. The largest single group and the reason most people search for this brand.
- Mattresses — 8 items, plus 2 massage chairs.
- Air purifiers (6), food waste disposers (6), bidets (5), water purifiers (4, plus 2 ice-dispensing), dehumidifiers (2), a water softener (1).
- Electric cooktops (3).
By category that splits into kitchen 32, air & water 15, and furniture 10. If you are setting up a first apartment and want one or two items rather than a full house, this is a reasonable place to start.
Why a rice cooker is worth renting rather than buying
A Korean pressure rice cooker is not the same appliance as a basic rice cooker sold elsewhere, and the good ones are expensive to buy outright. In our catalogue Cuckoo rice cookers start at about ₩5,200/month for a 10-cup model and ₩5,900/month for a 6-cup, both on 60-month terms.
Two things to weigh:
- You may not know what size you need yet. Cup sizes in Korea refer to uncooked rice measures, and a 10-cup model is normal for two people who cook regularly.
- Check what service comes with it. The rice cookers in our catalogue list one year of free repair — not a scheduled maintenance visit. Pressure appliances do wear at the gasket and internal parts, so ask in the consultation what is covered beyond the first year.
If you cook rice once a week, buying a cheap model is probably better value. If it is daily, the monthly-instead-of-upfront trade starts to make sense.
The cheapest entry point in our catalogue
Cuckoo monthly fees run from ₩5,200 to ₩71,900, with a median of about ₩16,200. For comparison, the medians for LG and Samsung in our catalogue are roughly ₩45,000 and ₩49,200.
That makes Cuckoo the practical answer to "I want to try renting before committing to something large." A rice cooker or bidet at ₩5,000–₩15,000 a month is a small monthly line, and you learn how the delivery, installation and any maintenance visits actually work before signing for a fridge.
One thing to note in the other direction: only 7 of the 57 Cuckoo items carry a partner-card discount price in our catalogue — far fewer than LG (273 of 390) or Samsung (344 of 413). So if your plan was to lean on the card discount to bring the fee down, Cuckoo is the wrong brand to plan around. The fees above are already low without it.
Which Cuckoo items include a service visit
This is the part most worth checking, because Cuckoo covers both ends of the range and the difference is not visible in the price:
- 11 items state a visit cycle — water purifiers, ice-dispensing purifiers, bidets, the water softener and a cooktop. Cycles listed run from every 4 months to every 12 months.
- 15 items state self-management, typically a filter you replace yourself on a 12-month cycle, with the filter shipped to you.
- The 8 mattresses state no care service at all. If you were expecting a mattress rental to include periodic cleaning visits, our catalogue does not show that for these items — confirm it in the consultation before assuming.
- The rest, including the rice cookers, list a free-repair period rather than a service cycle.

Contract terms are more varied here
Unlike Samsung, where 95% of items are 60-month agreements, Cuckoo terms are spread out:
- 60 months — 40 items
- 72 months — 10 items
- 84 months — 3 items
- 36, 39 or 48 months — 4 items combined
Sixty months is still the most common, but there is more variation to ask about — and note that some items run longer at 72 or 84 months, which lowers the monthly figure while extending the commitment. All 8 mattresses are 72-month terms. Check the term, not just the monthly fee.
As with any rental, if your visa or lease is shorter than the contract term, raise it in the consultation before applying. What happens if you leave Korea mid-contract depends on the specific rental company's terms.

Does Cuckoo mattress rental include cleaning visits?
Not according to our catalogue. All 8 Cuckoo mattresses we list are 72-month terms with no care service recorded, so treat a mattress rental here as paying monthly for the mattress rather than as a managed cleaning service. Can foreigners rent Cuckoo products?
Generally yes. Rental companies typically ask for an Alien Registration Card and consider your remaining period of stay, and decisions can differ by brand and product category. Because Cuckoo items have low monthly fees, they are often a straightforward first application — but we check rather than assume. Why do so few Cuckoo items have a card discount?
We do not know the rental company's reasoning, only what our catalogue shows: 7 of 57 Cuckoo items list a card-discount price, against 273 of 390 for LG and 344 of 413 for Samsung. One plausible reading is that the fees are already low enough that a card-spending discount has little room to work on, but that is an inference — the practical point is to plan around the standard fee for this brand.
Why would I rent an 84-month contract?
Longer terms lower the monthly figure by spreading it further, which is why three items in our catalogue run 84 months. Whether that is a good trade depends entirely on how long you plan to stay in Korea — seven years is a long commitment. Check the term before comparing monthly fees between items.
