• Jangma (장마) — the rainy season typically runs from June into July, with long stretches of high humidity even between showers.
• 반지하 (semi-basement) and north-facing rooms — these get less direct sun and airflow, so moisture lingers longer than in a bright, higher-floor or south-facing unit.
• Drying laundry indoors — without a dryer, laundry hung to dry inside adds a lot of moisture to the air, especially in a small officetel or one-room.

Mold prevention

• Rated capacity (L/일) — dehumidifiers are usually rated by how many liters of moisture they can remove per day; a smaller-capacity model suits a single room or a compact officetel, while a larger-capacity model suits a living room or an open studio layout.
• Tank size and drain option — check the water tank size and how often you'd need to empty it, or whether the model supports a continuous drain hose if you'd rather not empty a tank daily.
• Where you'll run it — a unit meant for a laundry room or closet can be smaller than one meant to cover an entire living space.

Dehumidifier vs your air conditioner's 제습 (dry) mode

Most air conditioners have a 제습 (dehumidify) mode, which is a reasonable option when you're already cooling a room. A dedicated dehumidifier is generally the better fit for jobs an air conditioner isn't built for — drying laundry, or controlling humidity in a smaller space like a laundry area or closet you're not otherwise trying to cool. Because it's doing one job instead of cooling air as a side effect, a dedicated unit tends to be the more practical (and generally cheaper to run) choice for that kind of spot-humidity job, though the exact difference depends on your unit, room, and usage.

Neither fully replaces the other — many households end up using both: the air conditioner's dry mode for the main living space in summer, and a dedicated dehumidifier for the laundry area, a 반지하 room, or a closet that never quite dries out. Monthly cost, contract (약정), and how to apply as a foreigner

The monthly fee depends mainly on rated capacity — larger-capacity models cost more per month than compact ones — and on the contract length (약정), where a longer term usually lowers the monthly fee.
